The Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP Agyia)—an official member of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH)—once again invites students to explore the fascinating history of electrification through a range of unique, hands-on educational programs running from Monday, October 12, 2026, to Friday, June 11, 2027.
Combining science with nature and learning with play, the programs are specially designed to meet the needs and characteristics of different educational levels. They emphasize active student participation, discovery, and exploration.
Through these experiential activities, students learn about the water cycle, discover how the distinctive SHPP Agyia building operates, and explore Renewable Energy Sources (RES). The programs also make use of the beautiful Lake Agyia, a Natura-protected area, where students can take part in outdoor experiential activities.
In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in STEAM workshops, build models using LEGO, and conduct hands-on experiments exploring energy conversion. For high school classes, the program includes a guided tour of the site, as well as the opportunity to “start up the factory” using augmented reality applications on tablets.
