What happens to Agia Lake when waste is discarded into the water? How does the ecosystem change when vegetation is damaged, or local wildlife is disturbed? Conversely, what positive effects can result when we take collective responsibility for protecting the lake and its natural environment?
The new educational program “Getting to Know Agia Lake, Taking Action!”, hosted at the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP), invites primary school students to explore the natural environment of Agia Lake and develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between human activity as well as functioning of ecosystems. Through age-appropriate games, experiential activities, observation, and exploration, students investigate the connections between cause and effect in nature. They learn how changes to water quality, vegetation, and wildlife can affect the balance of an ecosystem, while also discovering how responsible human actions can contribute to its protection and preservation.
The program aims to foster environmental awareness, active participation, and a sense of responsibility toward the natural environment, encouraging students to recognise that every individual action can have an impact on the ecosystems around us. The educational program takes place at the facilities of the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP).
